Chevy Truck Door Wont Open From Inside Or Outside

Remove the door panel.

Chevy truck door wont open from inside or outside. The lock barely moves but the window works fine. The drivers inside handle broke. However when it is in the unlocked position i still cannot open my drivers door from the inside or the outside. You can take a long screw driver of piece of drill rod and manipulate the lever that opens the latch to get the door open and make repairs as needed.

If you are having trouble because your truck door won t open from the inside or outside there is most likely an issue with rods that hold the lock in place. I am in process of fixing it when the door shut. The lock on my door still goes up and down as if it can be locked and unlocked. I have a 1997 chevy 1500 with power windows and door locks.

Are there any tricks to open the door so i can finish my repair. It feels as if there is nothing there or no tension on anything. These parts run between the key tumbler the door lock button the lock mechanism the interior and exterior door handles and the release mechanism for the latch. I have also tried using my key in the keyhole on the outside but still nothing.

If it does not move gently insert a screwdriver or small pry bar between the panel and door and gently pry the panel away from the door to determine if there are any retaining clips.
